3rd February 1813

Received a letter from my uncle Walter Paterson desiring me to pay his legacy (of £15 sterling left him by my brother) to William Mcfarlan baker here and take his receipt for it which I immediately did and took Macfarlanes receipt accordingly.

  1. Here is some more of my Lucas family speculation: a Thomas Lucas was christened in July 1756, Alloa, the parents being James Lucas and Jean Paterson. A son James had previously been christened there in Dec 1749. So we have brothers Thomas and James Lucas.
A James Lucas, brother of Thomas Lucas, surgeon, died in or around 1812 in Stirling, which could explain the ‘legacy … left him by my brother’ remark.
If Jean Paterson had a brother Walter, then he would be the uncle referred to in the diary.
