    • Hi Julia,

I just checked in the Dictionary of the Scots Language ( a great, free on-line resource for Scots found in historical documents and elsewhere) and it means a heavy fall, what we would call a heavy shower of rain. The weather on the 25th May 1813 was evidently similar to what we are experiencing today although the sunshine and warmth that we had on the 25th May 2013 was very welcome!

Hope you are enjoying the blog.
